In response to retailer requests for a new model to fulfill beginner and kite instructor requirements for a simple, effective and highly dependable training kite, Best Kiteboarding introduced the Guroo at the start of the 2008 season.
An incredibly stable 3-strut SLE design, the Guroo is built to the same specification as the rest of the 08 kite range, and benefits from our exclusive Canopy Framing Technology and Load Flex leading edge seam construction. With a pulley-linked front and back bridle, the Guroo pops off the water in no time at all, by simply pulling steadily on one backline while the kite is directly downwind, providing beginners with the confidence they need to help progress their riding skills. Plus, it’s robust enough to survive the rough and tumble that comes from repeated beginner and instruction use.
Now, while we expected great feedback from schools about how they loved the Guroo for teaching, what we didn’t expect was feedback that the Guroo was also the kite of choice once the lessons ended and the instructors took to the waves for some big wave action!
Big wave kiters look for kites that have many of the same characteristics as the best beginners’ kites; they prefer a kite with a deep draft that is able to be pushed back into the window, allowing them to ride down the line using the wave for power, rather than the kite. They require a kite that relaunches instantly in any conditions, especially when the wind is light and the waves are pounding. They favour a kite that has almost complete depower from limited bar travel and handles faultlessly when ridden unhooked. In short, many big wave kiters prefer a kite just like the Guroo.
The only problem with that is that up until now the only way to own a Guroo was if you worked for a Best school who taught with them, or were able to bribe someone to let you use one as soon as the school lessons had ended; plenty of keen riders did just that. And they told us about it.
So what do you do, as a kite manufacturer, when your work-horse school kite gains unexpected popularity as a wave kite based on performance alone, with absolutely no marketing behind it whatsoever? You sit back and re-think what you’re doing.
Although we never intended the Guroo to be a ’sell through’ kite, we never want to stand in the way of progress and we simply cannot deny rider requests to dealers and on the forums any longer. So here it is, for a limited time, available in the two most popular sizes for surfing … 9m and 12m … and available with the Thruster Waveboard size of your choice in a killer board and kite package combo.
