New narrower strut and LE tubes makes the 09 Rise the most efficient kite we’ve ever made!
Updated bridle attachment points allow the rider to modify the kite’s turning speeds and wind range. Included on the 2008 Rise this year’s 09 Rise has these attachment points better balanced for maximum effect and performance.
Planform Turning Speed. For 2009 we have worked hard to balance the turning speeds of the Rise. Less twitchy at the smaller sizes and insanely fast at the larger sizes, the 2009 Rise maintains a constant solid feel across its whole size range!
Venturi Technology
Similar to water flowing over a rock in mid stream the air flowing off the back side of a traditional inflated LE kite is heavily turbulated.
By introducing a slotted air foil on our 2008 line of kites clean flowing air is drawn through the vents and serves to smooth this turbulated air flow. This results in a kite which is more efficient and is less prone to stalling!

The new 2009 Rise Venturi bridle significantly reduces bar pressure over last year’s Rise! Bar pressure is a thing of the past with the new 2008 set-up and we plan to introduce a 2009 Rise Bridle Update Pack that 2008 customers can use to modify their set-up for significantly less bar pressure.

At Nitinat I had the opportunity to log a lot of hours on the 09 kites, primarily on the 6,8 and 10M so I’m now in a better position to comment on the differences between the 08 vs 09. We sent out a wish list to our customers and team riders and asked them what they would like changed or improved on the 09 model. The overwhelming response was that we not mess with success, but make subtle refinements instead. So, in a nutshell:
1) The 09 Rise has more range overall, most of it being gained on the top end. I really noticed this difference on the race course. On Sunday we had a ton of wind and one rider came straight off the 12m and jumped on the 6m, and if anything, the wind lightened up!
2) The 09 Rise flys further into the window and as such goes even better to windward than the 08. If you prefer it to sit a bit deeper the bridle set-up is easily adjusted to accommodate this.
3) The bar pressure is a bit higher so there is much more positive feedback. Overall, it is still light but I really like the new feel.
4) The 09 kite has more depower - this request came largely from our waveriders and racers.
5) The majority of the range and depower is accessed through a much shorter range of throw on the bar.
6) The 09 Rise is much less trim sensitive, especially in the smaller sizes.
7) Graphics - we knew we hit a home run with the 08 Rise when the bulk of the wish list from our riders related to requests for improved graphics on the 09….:P
